Mississippi National Technical Honor Society “Lighting Up The Workforce”

December 18, 2023

The end of the year is drawing near, and as it approaches we are fervently looking forward to developing
and accomplishing new goals for the 2024 year of the National Technical Honor Society. My name is
Demetria Brown, I am a teacher, NTHS advisor, and work based learning coordinator at Long Beach
Senior High School. I am in correspondence with the Mississippi Department of Education, Career and
Technical Education Student Organization. Our primary goal is to commence an annual state-wide fair
for students seeking to further their knowledge and skills within Mississippi. We would love to focus on
providing career and technical education students with pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships and
internships to students in career fields related to healthcare, business, manufacturing, transportation,
logistics and energy. In addition, we would like to provide teachers with the opportunity to explore and
apply for externships within your organization. This will allow valuable workforce development
knowledge and skills to be included in the classroom to enhance 21st Century Skills.
Our secondary goal is to work with career coaches from across the state to enhance employment
opportunities for students across county lines. We recognize that some students want to stay in their
hometowns; while others are interested in broadening their horizons throughout the state. We want to
keep our most valuable resources and assets in Mississippi, to support and encourage growth amongst
the community. By rallying together, and establishing a booth at our career fair, teachers, career coaches,
and students gain the opportunity to explore your career opportunities and become interested in your
organization. Therefore, please join us on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 8am-12pm. Attached is the flyer
containing all the details associated with the event. Brunch will be provided for those participating in the
career fair.

Although there is no cost to participate, we do appreciate donations or sponsorships to support our
ongoing efforts. As such, we will provide a sponsorship letter and 501c3 letter. If you have any further
questions, please feel free to contact me at demetria.brown@lbsdk12.com.

Sincerely,
Demetria Brown
