Mr. Phillip Durbin visited the Tupelo WIN Job Center on January 6, 2026, where staff referred him to the Veteran Employment Coordinator (VEC) based on his responses to the VEC Eligibility Screening Tool. During their first meeting, the VEC introduced Mr. Durbin to the JVSG program, explained the services available, and conducted a comprehensive assessment of his work history, education, and military background. Mr. Durbin expressed a strong interest in receiving ongoing assistance, leading to a follow-up appointment scheduled for January 12, 2026.
At the follow-up meeting, VEC and Mr. Durbin collaborated to establish both short- and long-term employment goals and created an Individual Employment Plan (IEP). Together, they reviewed and refined Mr. Durbin’s résumé, discussed targeted job search strategies, and ensured he was E-Verified for referrals through the MS Works System. The VEC identified job opportunities aligned with Mr. Durbin’s interests and created referrals for Mr. Durbin. They also researched potential employers near Mr. Durbin’s home for potential employment opportunities
Throughout January, consistent communication and guidance continued. Mr. Durbin shared that he was actively applying for open job vacancies in his area and had also reported attending a job fair in Aberdeen, MS. On January 29, after discussing openings with potential employment opportunities in Tupelo, Mr. Durbin requested a referral for one of the shared positions based on his interest and past work experience.
On February 5, while reviewing new job orders, the VEC identified a position with Precision Blades, Inc. in Saltillo, MS, that matched Mr. Durbin’s stated interests. The VEC contacted both Mr. Durbin and the employer. Due to previous outreach, the employer welcomed Mr. Durbin to complete an application in person. The results were immediate. On February 9, 2026, Mr. Durbin informed the VEC that after visiting Precision Blades, he had completed the application, been interviewed on the spot, and was hired the same day. His employment start date was scheduled for February 16, 2026.
Mr. Durbin secured employment quickly through consistent engagement, proactive communication, and collaborative efforts between himself and the VEC. He demonstrated strong follow-through, motivation, and readiness for employment—ultimately achieving a successful outcome aligned with his goals.
