N. Henderson: Turning a Vague Idea Into a Defined Plan: My Hago Apprenticeship

My experience with the HAGO apprenticeship has been both transformative and
deeply rewarding. When I first joined the program, I just graduated high school, still
exploring my strengths and trying to determine a clear professional direction. I had
ambition and curiosity, but I lacked structured guidance and real-world exposure. This
apprenticeship became the bridge between where I was and where I wanted to go.

One of the most significant ways the program has helped me is by aligning my
daily work with my personal goals. I entered the apprenticeship hoping to build practical
skills, gain confidence in a professional environment, and better understand my long-
term career interests. Through hands-on projects, mentorship, and consistent feedback,
I was able to sharpen both technical and soft skills. I became more disciplined,
improved my communication, and developed a stronger sense of accountability. These
are qualities that I know will continue to serve me well in the future.

I was still figuring out what direction I wanted to take in my career. I had some
foundational knowledge, but I lacked clarity and experience. The apprenticeship
provided me with the opportunity to explore different aspects of the field while also
building a solid foundation. It gave me exposure to real responsibilities, which helped
me better understand workplace expectations and my own capabilities.

The program has absolutely influenced my career pathway. Before joining, my
goals were broad and somewhat uncertain. Now, I have a clearer vision of where I want
to go and the steps required to get there. The experience has not only confirmed my
interest in this field but has also motivated me to continue growing and seeking new
opportunities for development. It has turned what was once a vague idea into a more
defined and achievable plan.

For anyone considering applying to the Hago apprenticeship, my biggest advice
would be to stay open-minded and take full advantage of every opportunity presented.
Be proactive in asking questions, seek feedback, and don’t be afraid to step outside of
your comfort zone. Growth often comes from challenges, and this program provides a
supportive environment to learn from those experiences.

Overall, the Hago apprenticeship has been a valuable stepping stone for me. It
has equipped me with practical skills, strengthened my confidence, and brought me out
of my shell. I am grateful for the experience and would highly recommend it to anyone
looking to build a strong foundation for their career.
